Manasalu Trekking

Till the end of 1980s Manasalu Region is restricted area to foreign trekkers. This trekking route is officially opened to tourist only after 1991 (after the restoration of democracy in Nepal). This trekking takes you to the unspoiled and remote Manaslu region bordering with Tibet. Still it is an area restricted for mass tourism, to preserve its unique cultural and natural heritage. The trekking in Manaslu region offers a diverse culture and landscape and challenging trails along Budi Gandaki valley. En route are numerous waterfalls and lakes, interesting Buddhist monasteries in Samagaon and Larke Bazzar and interesting Tibetan villages that look medieval. This area is marked by two cultural and historical highlights: Gorkha, the ancestral seat of the Royal Shah dynasty and the temple of Manakamana, the goddess of wish fulfilling.

Manaslu trekking is geographically spectacular and culturally fascinating. The Tibetans of the upper Budi Gandaki, a region known as Nupri, are direct descendants of Tibetan immigrants. Their speech, dress and customs are almost exclusively Tibetan and there is still continuous trade between Nupri and Tibet. The mountain views in Nupri are sensational and the Larke pass (5,213m) is a dramatic Himalayan pass to cross. This trekking trail crosses many monasteries, the holy places where Tibetan monks inhabit. Visit to Sama Gompa, the older monastery of this region is highly remarkable of this trip.

Starting from Arughat in Gorkha we walk along the Budi Gandaki valley. The first few days are hard . Slowly we enter regions more scenic and culturally interesting. We pass through interesting and exotic Buddhist villages of Samagaon, Sirdibas and Samdo and cross the Larke pass to descend to Marshyangdi valley in Annapurna circuit route where it ends in Bensisahar. Our biggest challenge will be crossing Larkya La pass (5214m), here you are rewarded with great mountains views & then we descend from alpine to tropical areas, bursting with ferns, bamboos, pine, waterfalls & aqua-blue green lakes laced with cotton- white beaches
